Answering common questions about service delivery at Hope & Ability Community Services

Here’s some information that is useful to consider ahead of requesting or receiving services through us.

Q1: What is Individual Supported Employment (ISE)?

Individual Supported Employment (ISE) is a service that helps individuals with disabilities find and keep jobs in their community. This includes assistance with job searching, applying for positions, preparing for interviews, and receiving on-the-job support until the individual can work independently.

We support the entire employment process. This includes helping individuals find job opportunities, apply for positions, prepare for interviews, and receive on-the-job coaching and ongoing support to maintain employment.

Yes, we work with individuals who receive Medicaid Waiver services, including the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver, as well as individuals referred through DARS and other funding sources when applicable.

We provide services throughout Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads, including Stafford, Fredericksburg, Woodbridge, Suffolk, Norfolk, and surrounding areas.

The timeline to begin services depends on eligibility and authorization. In most cases, individuals can begin services within a few weeks after completing the intake process and receiving approval.

Services are provided in the community, not in an office setting. This may include job sites, local businesses, community locations, or other real-world environments where individuals can build independence.

Service frequency is based on individual needs but typically ranges from 2 to 5 sessions per week. Support levels may decrease over time as the individual becomes more independent.

Referrals can come from families, case managers, support coordinators, schools, or the individuals themselves.

The goal is to help individuals achieve competitive, integrated employment and become as independent as possible in both the workplace and their community.
